Pasterze ist der gr\u00f6\u00dfte Teil eines kombinierten Gebirgsgletschersystems in den \u00f6sterreichischen Alpen (Hohe Tauern) mit mehreren Auffangbecken und Talgletschern. Die Gesamtfl\u00e4che des Pasterze-Gletschers betr\u00e4gt 16,3 km\u00b2 (2012) und erstreckt sich \u00fcber eine H\u00f6he von 2100 bis 3500 m \u00fcber dem Meeresspiegel. Die 5 km lange markante Gletscherzunge ist zum Teil von einer 5-20 cm dicken Tr\u00fcmmerschicht bedeckt, die dem S\u00fcdosten ausgesetzt ist und in die M\u00f6ll m\u00fcndet. Geophysikalische Untersuchungen im Jahr 1998 ergaben eine maximale Eisdicke von 320 m und eine mittlere Eisdicke von 64 m. Die Massenbilanzmessungen wurden zwischen 1979\/80 und 1996\/97 durchgef\u00fchrt und 2004\/05 wieder aufgenommen. Der mittlere j\u00e4hrliche Massenverlust \u00fcber den gesamten Untersuchungszeitraum betr\u00e4gt -0,9 m w.e. a<sup>-1<\/sup> und -1,1 m w.e. a<sup>-1<\/sup> f\u00fcr das letzte Jahrzehnt. Geod\u00e4tische Massenbilanzen weisen einen mittleren Massenverlust von 0,56 m w.e. auf. a<sup>-1<\/sup> zwischen 1969 und 1998 und 1,21 m w.e. a<sup>-1<\/sup> zwischen 1998 und
