Seine Fl\u00e4che betr\u00e4gt 5,63 km\u00b2 (2013) und reicht von 1300 m bis 280 m \u00fcber dem Meeresspiegel. Er ist haupts\u00e4chlich nach Nordwesten ausgerichtet, wobei zwei separate Staugebiete nach Nordosten und Nordwesten ausgerichtet sind. Das dickste Eis, das bei einer GPR-Vermessung im Mai 2008 gefunden wurde, ist 200 m hoch und befindet sich am Zusammenfluss der beiden Akkumulationsgebiete. GPR-Daten deuten darauf hin, dass der Freya-Gletscher ein polythermischer Gletscher mit gem\u00e4\u00dfigtem Eis in einem begrenzten Gebiet an der ELA in der N\u00e4he des Gletscherbodens ist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Die Mittelwerte (1996-2005) der j\u00e4hrlichen Temperatur und des Niederschlags in Zackenberg (38 m \u00fcber dem Meeresspiegel) betragen -9,2 \u00b0 C und 230 mm.
